March 2020 - Not Quite the Expected

Oh to have not a care in the world…

Oh to have not a care in the world…

March is here and contrary to what I said in January, I have not started back blogging at all. I am so torn on blogging. I love doing it and that should be enough right?! But then I get in my head and start wondering if anyone is actually even reading this——and if not, what’s it all for. I am trying to change that mentality because I enjoy it and if no one reads it, that should be ok. We are currently in a worldwide pandemic, I’m thinking blogging will be good for me for a while.

2020 so far has been busy. This time of year for work is packed with closing the books for the year and while I totally expect it, it’s still a tough time each year. Due to this, we usually try to plan something fun in March. This year, we had a snow trip to Breckenridge planned. We were supposed to fly out March 14th for the week since it was Henley’s spring break. We were planning to go with a family friend of ours that also has two girls the same age as ours.

On the Wednesday before, I started packing and finished on Thursday since we were flying out Saturday. I put the girls to bed and started reading the news. I had a pit in my stomach that this trip might not be the best idea. My wallet was at odds with my head. I was already worried about the flight with the increased cases of the flu, COVID-19 added a whole new level of worry. I contacted my friend and she was having similar reservations. We both worried about the flight and getting quarantined on vacation, but on the flip side we worried about all of the kids disappointment. Henley has been doodling cabins and snow for months.

By Friday we decided to call the trip off and started working on refunds. Most of it went well, still waiting on a few but for the most part, we are whole. The girls were disappointed, as were we, and there were tears but we were honest and up front with them about it.

Our family has been together for over a week now in “quarantine” and are practicing social distancing like most of the world. Aside from a few trips to the grocery store, we are staying home, enjoying the weather, and trying to entertain ourselves.

Today is day 8 of quarantine. I still took my week off of work this past week since I needed to use up the time before the end of March. This was a good way to transition the girls home and to make sure we had stuff to eat and the girls had stuff to do. IT also gave me time to deep clean this house. (I’ve started following @gocleanco on Instagram and she will motivate you to clean every inch of your house!)

Some things keeping us busy——

I’m hoping to continue checking in with you during this time as a creative outlet and also as a way to just share and document this unprecedented time! So from our family to yours, stay healthy and safe, keep your distance and love on your community in any way you can.
